The steel used in this unit is 16-gauge cold rolled, and it measures 32"x9", offering lasting protection for single axle trailers. The raw steel will need to be finished or painted in order to seal it and protect it from rust and corrosion. Compared to typical hot rolled steel, cold rolled steel is up to 20 percent stronger. The process of using heat to roll the steel can weaken it, but keeping it above room temperature helps maintain its structural integrity. Furthermore, cold rolled steel will have a better surface finish than hot rolled.
This unit features a 1" radius lip on the front and a 90 degree angle back, allowing for universal mounting to either side of your trailer. There are no pre-drilled holes, so you can mount it with the flat surface flush with the trailer.
